Jan earned her Bachelors of Science at the University of Idaho in
Moscow, Idaho in 1985 and a Juris Doctor from Tulane University
in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1989. She is a member of the
Washington State Bar Association, the King County Bar Association,
and the Greater Seattle Business Association. She specializes in
complex family law cases. Jan did not become an attorney until
her mid thirties. Prior to that time she worked with mentally
handicapped adults. A lifelong Westerner, life in New Orleans
for law school was a real eye opener to what the rest of this
country is like. At her law school commencement she was honored
for her clear commitment to public service and chose to stay an
additional year to participate in a Civil Right Fellowship through
Tulane's clinical program. After four years gone, Jan was anxious
to return to the West and Seattle was a natural fit. She worked
for several years at The Public Defender in Seattle before
launching into private practice.
